TRY BOWLS – 2016
In the first two years it is estimated that over 4000 people have tried bowls through the Try Bowls campaign and on average participating clubs are attracting nine new members per year.
Even if your club hasn’t had this kind of success through the campaign yet it is vital that you are signed up to benefit from the growing popularity of the campaign, to learn from other member clubs and because other clubs have shown that persistence pays off.
When does Try Bowls launch this year?
The official start of Try Bowls 2016 is the weekend of Friday 29th April – Sunday 1st May. Bowls Scotland will be focussing our main promotional work in the weeks leading up to this launch so we would like all clubs that are signed up to run a Try Bowls event at some point during this launch weekend.
Your event can last a full day or can last as little as a couple of hours but as long as it gives people in your community a chance to Try Bowls it can be promoted as part of the campaign. The Trick Shot Challenge, outlined below, can be utilised as part of your event.
What if our club can’t run an event that weekend?
Don’t worry if you can’t take part on the launch weekend you can still be a Try Bowls club and benefit from our promotional work throughout the season.
All you need to do is return your club profile form to Bowls Scotland and ensure that your events details are included on the Try Bowls website.
What do we need to do now?
At this stage we need you to inform us of any recruitment events you have planned for this year so we can add all information to the Try Bowls website to help market your events. If you don’t already have an event planned for the weekend of the launch then please set aside an hour or two on your green to run a Trick Shot Challenge session to ensure as many clubs as possible are involved in the launch and delivering the Trick Shot Challenge.
PLEASE COMPLETE AND RETURN THE CLUB PROFILE FORM BY THE 25TH MARCH 2016 TO ENSURE YOUR DETAILS ARE UP-TO-DATE AND YOUR EVENT INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED ON THE WEBSITE. ALL CLUBS THAT ORGANISE A RECRUITMENT EVENT AND RETURN THEIR FORM BY THE 25TH MARCH WILL BE ENTERED INTO A DRAW TO WIN A FREE SET OF BOWLSPARC EQUIPMENT.
Try Bowls promotion
Bowls Scotland will once again lead on the national promotion of Try Bowls and will supply all clubs that are signed up with promotional flyers and posters to use in their local community.
The participating clubs’ feedback reveals that most new players are being attracted through local promotion so this year we will be placing even more focus on local advertising opportunities.
To ensure you get the most out of the campaign plan internally how you intend to promote any Try Bowls events within your local community. This will complement the promotional work we do with national and local media.
Trick Shot Challenge
In 2015 we launched the Trick Shot Challenge as part of the Try Bowls campaign with participating clubs raising money for the STV Children’s Appeal. This national fundraising campaign benefits those in need of support, whilst positioning our sport at the heart of communities throughout the country.
This relationship gave us a great opportunity to promote bowls in Scotland through national media and the STV Children’s Appeal has been very supportive of the Try Bowls campaign.
We are pleased to announce that in 2016 we will be continuing to support the STV Children’s Appeal and that a new Trick Shot Challenge will be launched in late March for use during your Try Bowls events. All clubs that sign up to Try Bowls will receive full details on how they can take part in the Trick Shot Challenge and raise money to support the STV Children’s Appeal.
We would like to encourage all clubs running activities on the launch weekend to include the Trick Shot Challenge and to support our fundraising efforts for the STV Children’s Appeal.
Your club can run the Trick Shot Challenge throughout the season and return your donation to Bowls Scotland by the 31st August 2016.
The Trick Shot Challenge for 2016 will be launched at the end of March. To watch the Trick Shot Challenge from 2015 please click on the following link:
