The purpose of the BIBC/BIWBC Selection Policy is to ensure the best possible squads, teams and players are selected to achieve maximum success when representing Scotland during the BIBC/BIWBC International Series in 2017.

Period of Cover: 1st March 2017 – 28th February 2018

Player Eligibility

In order to be eligible to be selected to represent Scotland in any BIBC/BIWBC Competition/Event players must:

  • Be a playing member of a Bowls Scotland affiliated club
  • Submit an application form to Bowls Scotland from 1st March 2017 until 31st March 2017
  • BIWBC Juniors & BIBC Juniors must be within the age restrictions as detailed below:
  • BIWBC: Applicants must be 25 or under on or before 1st April 2017
  • BIBC: Applicants must be under 25 as at 1st April 2017

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on the following key performance factors:

  • Application Form: Proven experience and/or success at recognised competitions as detailed in the application form
  • Performance Delivery: Results from benchmarking sessions on Trial Days including individual drills and team games performance
  • Team dynamics and personal attributes
  • Ranking Points may be taken into consideration

Team selections will be made by a panel of Selectors and overseen by the Team Manager(s).

Process For Selection

Submit a Player Application Form by closing date - 31st March 2017

Applications will be shortlisted and successful applicants will be invited to Trial Days as detailed in application form. Players must attend Trial days to be considered to represent Scotland in BIBC/BIWBC Teams.

Selectors have the option to pre-select players(s) who meet the following criteria:

  • Medallist from most recent Commonwealth Games
  • Medallist from most recent World Championships

These players may be chosen to be part of BIBC/BIWBC Teams without having to attend Trial Days, however not guaranteed. An application form must be submitted even if they meet the above criteria. Selectors have the option to invite players to trial even if they meet the pre-selection criteria.

Players chosen to represent Scotland in BIBC/BIWBC Teams must attend the Team Dynamic Days as detailed in the application form.

Bowls Scotland will inform all applicants of their selection or non-selection as soon as possible at each stage.

Once players have been offered a place on the team they will have a time limit to accept the offer. If no response is received by the cut off time it will be assumed they have declined the offer and another player may be offered the place.

Public notification of the selected parties will be made by Bowls Scotland only after all selected players have been notified.

All successful players must adhere to and sign the Bowls Scotland Players Agreement and Social Media Policy.

This policy will be available to all Bowls Scotland members through the Bowls Scotland website. Bowls Scotland shall have no responsibility to give notice of this policy to any individual members or clubs.
